Who are these British?
continued...
Why are the British moving to the Haut Limousin?
Firstly the region is greatly advertised on the Internet
and appeals to the British. Many of those who have relocated
to the region visited as tourists and fell in love with
the quality of lifestyle. Word of mouth has also generated
British arrivals to the region. Indeed twenty one percent
of those participating in the survey confirmed friends
or family already living in the Haut Limousin told them
about the region. Many state that the quality of lifestyle,
the security, the preserved environment, the architecture,
old houses and buildings and the climate were their main
reasons for leaving their native country to relocate here.
What do they expect?
The large majority of British in the region seem happy
and have found what they were looking for. The main obstacle
of course being the language barrier, but the outlook
seems positive as already many are reading the local news
and over half who took part in the survey have a reasonable
level of French. Overall they have a high opinion of our
public services and proposed activities. This of course
is important and must be taken in to account as they are
paying their taxes like everyone else and have set up
different businesses, which can only help to improve the
regions’ economy.
